Wycliffe Bible Translators International is an association of member organizations that have agreed to work with each other and with partners around the world, promoting and participating in Bible translation movements worldwide.

Wycliffe was founded in 1942 by William Cameron Townsend. Borrowing the name of John Wycliffe, who championed the first complete Bible translation in the English vernacular, Townsend founded "Camp Wycliffe" in 1934 as a linguistics training school. By 1942, "Camp Wycliffe" had grown into two partner organizations, Wycliffe Bible Translators and the Summer Institute of Linguistics. Today Wycliffe continues to serve alongside SIL, as well as working with many other partners worldwide.

As Wycliffe organizations multiplied, the corporation reorganized in the early 1990s. Wycliffe International was created to facilitate the multiplying opportunities for partnerships with churches and organizations worldwide on behalf of Bible translation and related ministries.

In 1999, Wycliffe and its partner organizations adopted Vision 2025: “By 2025, to see a Bible translation program in progress in every language needing one.” Since that time, God has accelerated the pace of translation beyond anything we could imagine.

Today, there are still more than 2,000 language communities without access to even one verse of God’s Word in their language. God’s Word, communicated in the language and mediums that are best understood, has the power to transform lives, families and communities. Wycliffe International desires, as a part of the worldwide Church, to work and serve in partnership so that all might have access to the Word and its transforming power.
